Beach description:

St Anne’s is situated in the district of Lytham in Blackpool, just a few hundred metres from Blackpool Pleasure Beach. But don’t let that put you off, St Anne’s is a spectacular kite beach with a big kite surfing scene. The beach is huge and at various states of tide features flat water lagoons for practicing those tricks you’re trying to get dialled. Watch out though, the water can be just a few inches deep in places! If waves are your thing you can head a bit further out or ride north to the neighbouring Starr Gate, where they can get pretty big (but pretty mushy). St Anne’s will work on anything from SSE clockwise all the way round to NW. The beach curves round to the North to Starr Gate which practically runs from N to S, so if the wind swings further round to a pure northerly, just head North to Starr Gate.

Beach Access

Getting to St Anne’s is really easy. Follow the signs for Blackpool Airport. You’ll come down the A5230 with the airport on your left. When you reach the end, turn left and follow the A584 for about half a mile. Then turn right onto the N Promenade and look for a parking spot. Water Type

St Anne's does have waves, but they're really messy. At various states of tide, large, flat-water lagoons develop, perfect for freestyle/wakestyle riding. St Anne's works on all but the highest tide, where the water goes right into the dunes. The beach has a large tidal range, so at low tide, prepare for a long hike to the water (the bonus is that you can ride it all the way back to the dunes as tide rolls back in).

Hazards

The swell can get pretty big when you head out, best to stick nearer the beach unless you’re really confident. I’ve seen people riding horses in the shallow water. Watch out for the usual dog walkers etc. At high tide you can see some pretty nasty stuff washed up including hypodermic needles! *Note: I might be the only one who's seen this (see comment below). Don't let it put you off. It's an epic beach for kitesurfing.
