South Shields, known locally as ‘Shields’ is a town based at the mouth of the River Tyne. The beach features a large sandy bay on the South side of the river Tyne. There’s a sea wall to the North End and a cliff / rocks to the south.

Other beach users. South Shields can get really busy. The sea wall at the North end of the beach. Rocks at the South end of the beach. There are the remains of 2 piers on the mid tide mark up by the Groyne Pier.
