Daymer Bay

Beach description:

Daymer Bay sits on the east side of the opening of the Camel Estuary which runs into the popular town of Padstow. It provides a lovely little beach dead opposite Hawkers Cove, a popular flat water spot on the west side of the estuary. Daymer is a little more exposed to the incoming swell and as such can provide some small waves for fun and games. Daymer Bay will work on anything from a N to a S wind from a westerly direction. Avoid winds with any east (head to Hawkers Cove on the other side of the estuary in those), and pure westerlies. It works best on a N – NW as the find blows straight in off the sea. Other directions can be gusty.

Beach Access

Daymer Bay is signposted from the B3314. When you get onto Daymer lane, follow it all the way to the car park at the bottom and you’re there. It's a tiny, single-track lane. You may end up doing some reversing if someone's coming out). I can’t remember how much the parking fees were. There’s a ticket machine near the toilets as you drive in. Make sure you have a few pounds with you to cover it.

Code of Conduct

During the summer months of July and August, kite surfing is not allowed between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

Water Type

Depending on the tide state and wind direction, in some parts of the beach you'll find butter-flat water, in others it'll be choppy. It's freestyle / wakestyle freeride venue. Waveriders have a massive choice of better alternatives in Cornwall. Daymer Bay is possible to ride at any tide state. There's usually a little bit of beach to launch and land.

Hazards

Daymer Bay is is relatively safe, but watch out for the rocks at the most northerly part of the beach and the odd rock strewn across the beach, they can lurk just beneath the surface waiting to snag your board. Try to keep at least 100m away from any boats heading in and out of the estuary. Try to avoid crashing and getting washed in or out of the estuary, depending on wind direction. If you're not confident you can stay upwind, only ride on a NW wind, and stay close to the shore.
