Achill Island, on Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast, provides a haven for watersports activities of all types. The 3km long beach at Keel is popular with kitesurfers, though for a safer kitesurfing experience the shallow, freshwater lake at Keel measures over 1km by 1.5km and it’s a better option. Keel Lake is easily accessible for cars, allowing watersports enthusiasts to transport their equipment right up to the lake edge. Keel lake is ideal for beginners and works best with S and SW winds. For more experienced kitesurfers , the Atlantic waters around Achill provide numerous routes.
