Beach description:

Aberdyfi is a beautiful Welsh fishing village. Situated at the edge of The Snowdonia park, flanked by mountains and the Dovey estuary, it’s an awesome place to kitesurf. Aberdyfi (Aberdovey) will work on anything from SE, clockwise all the way round to NNW. SW is the best - you can use different tide heights to get access to the lagoons or waves of the bar. If the wind has North in it or N-NE Ynyslas and Borth beaches make better choices.

Beach Access

A493 from Machynlleth all the way through the village and park on the right in the lay-by under the Trefeddian Hotel. Park at Trefeddian Point to the north of the village (under the big hotel) and walk over the golf course. Don’t kite south of the point.

Water Type

At low tide there’s a huge sandy beach with loads of room for launching / landing. At low tide the water tends to be relatively flat, making it an ideal spot for newbies and those trying to perfect tricks. At high tide its difficult to launch so wait until it backed off a bit to avoid lofting over the dunes. Don’t launch off the main beach. Don’t kite in the boat moorings. Land-boarding and Buggying is best North of the point. The lagoons at the point work best mid to low tide. If you want waves head out 500m north of the point or get over the back of the lagoons to the bar joining Borth.

Hazards

Small pile of rocks to the south of the point that are covered at high tide. Big currents and some big rip tides especially in the estuary. Don’t ride 2 hours either side of high tide. There's not enough room to launch and land. Dog walkers. Weaver fish.
